It used to be that you couldn’t take a brief for a client’s landscape design project without being asked to include a water feature of some description. And while there is nothing wrong with a cleverly placed WF, like any other element in a landscape design it needs to fit with the big picture to make long-term sense. It’s a bit like ingredients in a recipe, to work everything needs to be in balance with no one element dominating the others.
There are a lot of challenges when it comes to including a WF but one of the biggest is sourcing affordable off the shelf solutions that have an element of originality. While bespoke is always an option and a lot of fun to design, the cost can blow out ( as with any custom made solutions ). The other big advantage to off the shelf solutions is that they’ve been designed for one purpose and as long as they’re from a reputable source then you can rely on them to work well in the long term. One of my favorite designer’s and suppliers of original water features for the residential landscape market is Jass Design in Melbourne. They’ve been around for many years producing well-made, beautiful and affordable pieces. Visit their site to see their range.
