I’ll keep this short because there is not a lot of any significance to speak about. I attended the Queensland arm of Landscape Expo yesterday but this was held down on the Gold Coast. For some reason the outdoor capital of Australia does not rate its own event.

I read with a tinge of envy the seminar and exhibitor list at the Melbourne and Sydney versions but can’t say I was inspired with what I saw on offer yesterday. Full credit to those that presented and committed to exhibiting, it’s not easy so well done. But rather than carp on about what’s not available this let’s focus on what is for those in Brisbane who want to stretch their landscape design skills. Recently the Queensland arm of AILDM ( Australian Institute of Landscape Design Managers ) has become a lot more active in organizing information nights. For a small fee you can hear from industry professionals and meet a swag of local designers and they’re a good bunch happy to share ideas. The other option is to keep an eye out for events on the Open Garden Scheme. While these are more geared for the DIY gardeners, whenever I’ve bothered to go I’ve always learnt something from a design perspective.
And finally to those in a position to put on an event for the landscape industry in and around Brisbane, if you can get it right I think many will come.
