Choosing a Landscape Style

A topic of conversation that is fairly central to determining a client’s brief is whether or not they have a particular style of landscape they’re wishing to incorporate into their project.  Thankfully more often than not while they have some preferences they’re open to whatever we think will be the best fit for their project. I say thankfully because when I come across someone who has a definite style they wish faithfully re-created we’re destined to part ways sooner rather than later

Why I love clever people

Thank god for clever people, they inspire us to do better ourselves while at the same time providing hope in the face of the world’s problems. One such clever fellow is an American architect by the name Thom Faulders, whose cleverness can be viewed in the image below (and yes those are individual tiles).

How much to spend on your landscape?

When investing in a landscape most homeowners think of the potential return on a project in terms of a property's value come sale time, anecdotally this might be anywhere between 10-20%. However the other measure of return on investment that should be considered is quality of lifestyle. A landscape that is tailored to a families particular needs can increase the value of time spent at home many times over and while its tough to quantify this in terms of value there is a good reason that this is something so many aspire to.

Where to start landscaping

I met a couple a while back that had lived in a very grand house with a very average landscape for close to 20 years because they couldn’t decide where to start. That’s 20 years of not enjoying living outside at home, in Queensland. 20 years of weekends, birthdays, BBQ’s, chasing the kids etc. gone.
